Today I bid farewell to my beloved Crackberry and bought an iPhone. Finally!!

I have to admit this thing is hella cool...I can blog anytime, anywhere!

It has certainly brightened this sullen week...

It's no secret...I'm a nerd.

Remember this Rolling Stone Magazine cover?

This issue debuted in 1995 when X-Files was the hottest show on Fox. The whole world was watching as Mulder and Scully investigated unexplained and paranormal cases.

I was not one of those viewers. I guess during that time I was partying too much...after all, I was 20 years old! I just never got into it and didn't watch the show...I don't remember even seeing it on TV at the time.

Yet, today I am considered an X-Files fanatic. It all began the summer of 2006. I was having trouble sleeping and would be up late during all hours of the night. Apparently, the Syfy network was running old episodes of the X-Files back-to-back from about 1:00 am to 3:00 am. The episodes weren't in sequence, which had me confused but I was totally hooked. I was intrigued...and became fully aware of just how sexy David Duchovny was (is). And I won't lie...I also developed a little lady crush on Gillian Anderson. Hello?!! The woman is gorgeous! Okay, back to the story of how I became an X-Files addict. I decided I needed to see this show from the beginning to fully understand the plot and characters. I joined Netflix and ordered the first few episodes. My mission in life then became to possess every.single.episode. While Netflix'ing my way through the series, I started collecting the DVD sets for each season. Within six months I had purchased all 9 seasons (a total of 202 episodes), a bloopers DVD, the first X-Files movie, and various X-Files memorabilia. I even went through a phase where I had to watch any and every movie that DD or GA were ever in (I highly recommend Duchovny's Return to Me and Anderson's The House of Mirth).

As of last year, I have gone through the entire series twice. Most of the time I would pop in the DVDs when I was sick or the cable was out. I would also randomly catch an epi on TV.

When I made the move to Dallas 3 weeks ago, I had no cable at my new place for 4 days. For me, that was killer. I love TV and like to have it playing in the background to keep me sane either while cleaning, cooking, or exercising. The first night in my place I was unpacking all of my DVDs and lo and behold there were all of the X-Files. It had been at least 2 years since I watched them and it was the perfect solution. So, VERY long story short, I'm back on the bandwagon for the third time around. I'm currently up to Season 3 and loving it. David Duchovny is still a hottie and I'm still fascinated by Gillian Anderson. Their characters are too cool and the show was brilliant. As with Seinfeld and Family Guy, I find myself quoting the show without even realizing it. I have reached "Specialist" status in X-Files trivia on Facebook. I have 2 fanatical tshirts: one that says "The Truth is Out There" and another that says "Scully's Morgue." I counted down the days until the second movie came out in 2008. I have the X-Files ringtone on my phone.

Like I said, it's no secret...I'm a nerd. And proud of it.

Swing life away

From the time I was 7 and up until I was 19-years-old there was a particular swing in my hometown that I loved. It was capable of going exceptionally high and I must admit I was good at getting air. There is nothing quite like the feeling I get when I swing. It always brings a smile to my face and makes me feel like a kid again...no worries, no deadlines, no bills to pay. I love the feel of the wind in my air and on my cheeks. I can almost feel the plastic seat and wrap my hands around the thick metal chains as I push and pull my way to freedom. Sometimes, if I got high enough, I would feel that familiar twinge in my belly...the excitement and tingle of going so high on the swing and testing the limits of basic physics.

I wonder if that swing is still there...just beyond the gazebo in the park on Tree Lane. Next time I'm in town I may have to check it out. There is no age limit when it comes to swinging...

Gross (in my book=Cool)

For a few years I have been obsessed with watching medical mystery shows on TV. For instance, Mystery Diagnosis on Discovery Health Channel (DHC). I can do without the silly closeups of people's faces and the 'dramatic' reinactments, but the overall concept intrigues me. I love hearing about misdiagnosed or rare diseases as well as the symptoms. Perhaps it stems from some minuscule hypochondriac tendencies, but I'd like to think I just enjoy learning about microbiology and physiology of the human body. Other, more graphic shows I watch include Trauma: Life in the ER (on TLC) and Impact: Stories of Survival (also on DHC)...lots of broken bones, live footage of ER trauma and followups on injuries. When I can, I also catch I Was Bitten on Discovery Channel. But my newest obsession is a show called Monsters Inside Me (DHC). When I first read the title of the show on my DVR guide, I really had no idea what the show might entail. Then I read the description: Stories of mysterious illnesses not caused by viruses or bacteria but stealthy, cunning creatures that have taken up residence in their unsuspecting hosts — parasites! Every story is a life-or-death battle between modern medicine and evolution as these patients fight off the MONSTERS INSIDE ME.

I watched it last weekend and it was pretty cool. Again, I can do without the closeups of the people detailing their experience--just show the blood and guts already! :) But I love learning about all kinds of 'stuff' out there just lurking, waiting to strike and wreak havoc. Hey, there's nothing wrong with being more aware of my surroundings, right??

I'm not weird, I promise...just a bit of a curious nerd.

Yahtzee!

Ok, so this game has been around for ages, but I pretty much just discovered it! Last week I signed on to pogo.com for free online games (since I have so much spare time). I've been playing my usual favorites (including Bookworm, Mahjong, Dominoes, Scrabble...) but thought I would try some new stuff. There is a game called Yahtzee Party and it's so much fun! I have NEVER played Yahtzee and it took me awhile to understand it and hone my skills...but before I knew it I got several Yahtzee rolls! It was pretty cool. And now I'm addicted.

A super cool invention...

I recently purchased one of these online and used it for the first time today (I got the blue one). It is uber cool. I like my morning cereal, and I like to eat it at my desk at work. So all I have to do the night before is pour in a little milk, some cereal and I'm ready for the morning! The milk stays cold and separate from the cereal, plus there is even a little built in spoon! Differential Equations, attic fans...and lots of caffeine

I've been studying diligently for my Differential Equations exam this Thursday. I am exhausted because all last week I was studying for my Bio exam. On top of that I couldn't get to sleep last night...Sunday nights have always been that way for me. I just can't ever seem to wind down. So when I couldn't fall asleep I finally got up and finished all the laundry, did the dishes and played with the kitties (who were having no problems sleeping but why should they get to if I can't??)

I finally went to bed and fell asleep sometime around 3:00 AM. My alarm was set for 7:00 and boy was I tired this morning. I am hitting the caffeine hard today. One good thing about yesterday was the weather. There was a nice breeze and I think the high was only in the mid-low 70's. I had the windows open all day and night. It was heaven. And of course the kitties love to bask in the sun on the window sills. Because my house is so old (1943) there is a neat little contraption called an attic fan. It's centrally located in the hallway, pretty much where an actual attic would be. My parents had to explain to me what it was when I first moved in. Anyway, last night even though I had the windows open, by nightfall there wasn't as much of a breeze and I felt a little warm. All that cool night air was being wasted! So I flipped on the attic fan and within 5 seconds the whole house was fresh and cool. Granted, it's a pretty loud sound so I knew I didn't want to keep it on all night. But what a great invention!

Ok, I am off to work on separation of variable, Euler's method, linear systems, eigenvalues and equilibrium point analysis...sounds exciting, yes?

I have very fond memories of babysitting my nieces and nephew when I lived in Texas. Since I am still a kid at heart, I would often partake in watching cartoons with them. And I remain a fan of Spongebob Squarepants to this day. This is an excerpt from the episode "BubbleStand/Ripped Pants" and it's HI-larious. Even my older brother thinks it's pretty funny. Spongebob is demostrating the 'technique' to blowing bubbles. The best part is at the very end...Patrick makes me laugh out loud everytime. I can't listen to Patrick without thinking about Dauber from the old comedy series Coach. Anyhoo, watch the video. I just hope Spongebob and his gang are still around when I have kids...
